Microorganisms native to the St. Lawrence for various applications (brewing, water treatment, etc.)

In collaboration with the Institut des sciences de la mer de Rimouski (ISMER), the CRBM team has identified new active microbial strains and consortia from the cold waters and microbial biodiversity of the St. Lawrence marine system.

This project allowed two industrial partners to assess the potential of microbial biomass in their respective sectors:

• InnuScience, specialized in the biological wastewater treatment and professional hygiene, was able to identify new bacterial strains capable of competing, on the principle of microbial interference, with the main multidrug-resistant clinical strains currently identified in the healthcare sector.
• Nanobrewery Brett & Sauvage obtained new active microorganisms for brewing fermentation.
